Many local transport authorities have Bus Service Improvement Plans which set out ambitions of the council and bus operators, in how they see local bus networks improving. Improvement plans often involve investment in;

• Introducing or enhancing multi operator ticket schemes.
• Improving links with other forms of transport such as train and ferry so end to end journeys can be completed without a car.
