Never pay more than £3 for your single journey

Great value bus travel continues, with single journeys capped at no more than £3*, bus travel is still a great value way to get from A to B.

We’re taking part in the National Bus Fare Cap Scheme which means that from 1st January 2025, a single bus journey in England will be capped at a maximum of £3 - yes that’s less than a cup of coffee from a high street cafe.

Will all journeys cost £3?

£3 is the maximum you will pay. Lots of our fares will cost less - in fact most single journeys will cost less than the £3 maximum single fare, offering great value on everyday trips especially within towns and cities. For those longer journeys, the fare cap ensures you will never pay more than £3 for a single trip. Where could your £3 take you? An example of what you might pay for a single fare:

  • £1.50 for a short hop journey, a few stops down the road
  • £2.00 for a shorter trip around town
  • £2.50 for a longer trip around town
  • £3.00 is our maximum single fare if travelling further afield

You can check the new single prices which will apply from 1st January 2025 in advance, by using the journey planner on the Stagecoach website.

Plan your journey

Even better you can pay less with our app DayRider bundles - buy 5 DayRider tickets and save 20%. In most of our ticket zones, that means you'll still only pay £2 (or less!) each way for a 'there-and-back' journey. Plus - our DayRider tickets offer unlimited travel all day, so you can travel as many times as you need to, for less than the price of single fares.

Do you have cheaper prices for young persons?

In some areas local Councils have funded cheaper single fares. In West Sussex and Portsmouth young people can buy cheaper single fares - please check the local Council website for more details. In Surrey young people can obtain cheaper single fares on production of the Surrey LINK Card, more information can be found herePlease note any young persons single fare schemes will need to be purchased from the driver and cannot be purchased from the app.

Are there any routes in my area excluded from the £3 fare scheme?

You'll never pay more than £3 for a single journey across all Stagecoach South services, the only exceptions being our event buses (such as Goodwood), the N1 (Guildford), the N700 (Brighton/Worthing) and any private school services.
