Why host a 'Meet the bus' event?
We hope to offer reassurance to enable people to travel independently with confidence.
It will also allow able-bodied people and carers to experience what it’s like to be blind or partially sighted and learn of how Stagecoach work with the Sight Loss Council to support people’s travel needs and increase accessibility.
What can I expect from the day?
- 2/3 Stagecoach buses for attendees to view, move around and familiarise themselves with the vehicle and experience what it might be like if they need to board with the wheelchair ramp.
- Colleagues from our driver training academy and operations teams to share what we teach our drivers and listen to customer experiences to learn what we can do better with disability awareness within driver training and on board.
- Representatives from Gloucester City Council who can assist with concessionary travel including applications and renewals. They also invite discussions surrounding infrastructure issues such as bus stops, timetable displays and will also collect feedback on the Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) bus stop displays.
- The ability to apply for a mobility scooter permit. This permit for travel is required before taking a mobility scooter on a bus. If you would like to undergo this approval process please bring along a passport sized photo of yourself.
- Access to a range of Stagecoach Journey Assistance cards. The cards are designed to ease the process of boarding and travelling on our buses by providing you with an instant and visual way of communicating to the driver if you have a hidden disability or learning difficulty.
Who can attend?
The event is open to all. It is an opportunity for us to meet disabled groups within the community we serve and learn how we as a bus operator can improve access and safety on board.
How can I get there?
The event is taking place at Cheltenham Racecourse. We will be just off of the main roundabout on the left-hand side and marked up as the taxi rank.
By bus:
Stagecoach Service D serves the Racecourse Park and Ride up to every 20 minutes from Bishops Cleeve and Hatherley. You can view the timetable here.
