Pontypridd is one of our most visited town in South Wales, and it’s no secret why. This bustling market town is jam packed with things to do for the whole family. The town’s roots as a 19th century coal mining town show in its beautiful historical architecture, but its culture certainly moves with the times. 

There's so much to do in the Rhondda Valleys. Visit the Welsh Mining Experience museum,  or take a leisurely stroll at Barry Sidings Countryside Park. Whether you’re visiting the Rhondda for a day out, or live and work in the area, Stagecoach offers a quick and convenient route from A to B. 

 

Aberdare has long been known as one of Wales’ cultural hubs, so it’s no surprise it’s one of our most travelled areas in South Wales. It’s home to the Coliseum Theatre and Cynon Valley Museum Trust, but it’s not just the cultural hotspots that make it a great place to visit. 

If you’re the outdoorsy type, Aberdare is home to plenty of countryside beauty spots, great for walking, hiking, cycling and more. If your travels in the area are few and far between, our single and return passes always offer excellent value. For more regular travellers, our DayRider and MegaRider tickets offer unlimited Stagecoach Rhondda and Aberdare travel. DayRiders offer unlimited boarding for 24 hours, or you can choose how long your ticket is valid for if you go for a MegaRider.

 

We also offer a range of passes, great if you live or commute in the town. If you travel fairly often, take a look at our weekly, over a week and longer than a month tickets – added value is guaranteed. Group tickets are also up for grabs – great for days out with friends and family in tow. Concession passes and mytravelpass tickets for those aged 16 to 21 are available too – but don’t forget to bring the relevant ID or pass along with you.

 

You can buy all of our tickets and passes in cash, straight from our driver when you board. Don’t carry change? No problem – many of our services now accept contactless card payments, but you can also buy your pass or ticket in advance online. Mobile tickets can even be purchased via the Stagecoach app – download for both Apple and Android devices.

Our most popular services include the 60 & 61 routes from Pontypridd, calling in areas such as Fernhill and Abercwmboi before reaching Aberdare in just short of an hour. Both routes pass by a number of schools along the way, making them popular services for students. You can also get to popular destinations like Ynysangharad Park, Ponty Lido, Dare Valley Country Park & Aberdare Market.

Already in Aberdare, and looking for ideas for your next day trip? Bridgend is a popular place to visit for our Aberdare passengers, and with attractions like McArthur Glen Designer Outlet and maybe onto Porthcawl and Rest Bay beach for fish & chips it’s no wonder the service 172* is always bustling! The 172* and 9 services to Merthyr Tydfil are also popular lines, getting from A to B in around half an hour.

Aberdare bus station

Located in the heart of the town centre, Aberdare bus station makes it easy to reach key attractions on foot. Aberdare Golf Club, Dare Valley Country Park and Aberdare Park are all just steps away. Many educational institutions are close by too, such as Aberdare Community School, St John the Baptist School, Coleg Y Cymoedd Aberdare campus and Park Lane School. Want to kill some time before catching your next Stagecoach service? Why not grab a bite to eat at McDonald's Aberdare or Yr Ieuan Ap Iago JD Wetherspoon? If you’re planning to stay in Aberdare, Premier inn, Mount Pleasant Hotel and Dare Valley Community Woodland are also nearby – perfect if you’d like to just drop off your luggage and get to exploring.

 

Pontypridd bus station

Located in the heart of the city centre, Pontypridd bus station couldn’t be more convenient. Ynysangharad War Memorial Park is moments away, as well as key shopping spots like B&Q, B&M, Argos, Currys and Sainsbury’s.
