Stagecoach is part of the fabric of daily life in the UK. We connect people with jobs, bring customers to high streets, help young people access education and build new skills, and draw families, friends and communities together.
We want to build on the progress we’ve made in recent years tackling climate change, becoming more energy efficient, reducing waste and conserving water. The plans we are taking forward are consistent with the 2015 Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2050, and are also aligned closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Stagecoach was also recently ranked as the top bus operator in the UK for addressing climate change, being awarded a A- rating from CDP, putting us in the top 6% of the 23,000 businesses who participated in the scheme.
A lot has happened since we published Driving Net Zero: Better Places to Live and Work in 2021 and have provided an update that outlines what we’ve achieved and what we have left to achieve before 2026. This update can be found at: Driving net-zero, our journey so far
Strategy Integration
Sustainability is at the core of our wider business strategy, and our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) roadmap is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals and addresses the issues that are material to our business. Our purpose is to deliver an essential service to the people of the UK by connecting them to the people and places that matter most. We do this by providing reliable, fairly-priced, easy to use bus and coach services that reflect the changing travel patterns of the communities that we serve. Our goal is to be the UK’s leading and preferred bus operator and we will do this by disciplined investment, by upholding high ESG and professional standards and by being an employer of choice.
Our plans are rooted in the values that guide us every day in supporting our people to deliver a great experience for our customers, and sustainable growth for our shareholders, stakeholders and our communities. Most importantly, we always aim to do the right thing.

Group Environment Policy - 2026

Over more than four decades, we have played a huge role in supporting the communities we serve and sharing our success with local people and communities by funding the work of local, national and international charities. Over that time we have made significant contributions towards the communities we serve through time, resource, money and sponsorship, committing to donating up to 0.5% of pre-tax profits to charitable and community causes each year.
In 2024, we began a partnership with Age UK, donating £100,000. The donation from Stagecoach supported Age UK continue to provide practical support to older people to help change the way we age today and in the future. We maintained that partnership in 2025, and again in 2026, with a focus on the local branches directly through our operating companies across the UK.
Local Operating Companies coordinate charitable giving in line with the overall Stagecoach ambition. Operating Companies manage and communicate charitable activities, with overall oversight from the Culture Committee. Charities and good causes can reach out to their local Stagecoach operating companies for support, and a full list of contacts for the different communities we serve can be found here.
We use a wide range of key performance indicators across the Group to measure how we are delivering our objective of sustainable growth. This is designed to help drive continuous improvement in the financial, operational and environmental performance of our businesses. These measures also track how we are delivering on safety, service to our customers, and our carbon management programmes.
