Stagecoach is part of the fabric of daily life in the UK. We connect people with jobs, bring customers to high streets, help young people access education and build new skills, and draw families, friends and communities together.
We want to build on the progress we’ve made in recent years tackling climate change, becoming more energy efficient, reducing waste and conserving water. The plans we are taking forward are consistent with the 2015 Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2050, and are also aligned closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Stagecoach was also recently ranked as the top bus operator in the UK for addressing climate change, being awarded a A- rating from CDP, putting us in the top 6% of the 23,000 businesses who participated in the scheme.
A lot has happened since we published Driving Net Zero: Better Places to Live and Work in 2021 and have provided an update that outlines what we’ve achieved and what we have left to achieve before 2026. This update can be found at: Driving net-zero, our journey so far
Strategy Integration
Sustainability is at the core of our wider business strategy, and our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) roadmap is aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals and addresses the issues that are material to our business. Our purpose is to deliver an essential service to the people of the UK by connecting them to the people and places that matter most. We do this by providing reliable, fairly-priced, easy to use bus and coach services that reflect the changing travel patterns of the communities that we serve. Our goal is to be the UK’s leading and preferred bus operator and we will do this by disciplined investment, by upholding high ESG and professional standards and by being an employer of choice.
Our plans are rooted in the values that guide us every day in supporting our people to deliver a great experience for our customers, and sustainable growth for our shareholders, stakeholders and our communities. Most importantly, we always aim to do the right thing.

Stagecoach – Giving for good – Our Community Fund
Over more than four decades, we have played a huge role in supporting the communities we serve and sharing our success with local people and communities by funding the work of local, national and international charities. We continue to make a significant contribution towards the communities we serve through time, resource, money and sponsorship and have committed to donating 0.5% of pre-tax profits to charitable and community causes each year.
As part of our sustainability strategy, we have clear targets to foster community development through our charitable activities. To help drive this forward, we have founded our new Charity Committee, ‘Stagecoach – Giving for Good’ four key themes have been identified that closely align with our purpose and values, which are:
- Promoting health and wellbeing
- Supporting young people, skills and employment
- Addressing loneliness and social isolation
- Increasing accessibility and opportunity
Our chosen charities for the year are:
- Missing People; a national organisation that offers assistance to people who run away/go missing and their families
- Trussell Trust; who support a nationwide network of food banks
- Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity; providing specialist nurses and support for seriously ill children
- Happy Days; helping terminally ill, sick, disabled and abused children and young carers with respite breaks, holidays and day trips.
We also think it is important to support local charities in the communities we serve and we also have a monthly fund dedicated to providing one-off support to smaller, local charities. We also support individual projects by providing direct support and extending the fundraising efforts of our own people for a variety of causes.
If you would like to make an application, please click here. All requests for support will be reviewed by the Charity Committee on the first Wednesday of each month and we ask that applications are sent to us before the last Friday of each month.
Please note, that you may not hear back from us the month you submit your application as we will roll over applications each month if we feel they fit better with a theme supporting our plans and strategy at a later date.

We use a wide range of key performance indicators across the Group to measure how we are delivering our objective of sustainable growth. This is designed to help drive continuous improvement in the financial, operational and environmental performance of our businesses. These measures also track how we are delivering on safety, service to our customers, and our carbon management programmes.
