Leave the car at home - and catch the Six Nations by bus!

03 Feb 2026

  • Have a drink while watching the game – and get home safely by bus
  • Local pubs and other venues open to watch the games
  • The bus is a great value way to get to the match

People across the East Midlands are being encouraged to leave the car at home and take the bus to watch rugby’s Six Nations competition, which starts this week.

The annual competition begins this Thursday evening when France host Ireland, then, on Saturday, Italy will play Scotland and England will take on Wales. Venues around the area, such as local pubs and restaurants are offering rugby fans the chance to get out and support your national teams, and to have a drink during the game.

So now is the time to get together with friends and family and take the safe, easy and great value way to get home!

Matt Cranwell, Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands, said: “We know that this is an exciting time for a lot of rugby fans, many of whom will want a beer or a wine while they support their teams. There is no need to take a risk by driving – our local bus services and professional Drivers will get you home, hopefully after watching a great win!

“Travelling by bus is also the environmentally responsible way to get around. Figures from Bus Users UK show that a brand-new diesel car, with a single occupant, can emit more nitrogen oxides than a new bus carrying 50 or more passengers. A fully loaded double decker bus can take 75 cars off the road.”

Last month, an outstanding 344 Drivers from Stagecoach East Midlands were recognised for their exceptional driving standards and dedication to road safety. Driver safety specialists GreenRoad monitor the performance of drivers and award a ‘Fleet Elite’ status to those who demonstrate sustained driving excellence, as evidenced by outstanding safety scores and displaying true mastery of the driving profession.

In total, 96 local drivers reached ‘Grand Master’ or ‘Master’ Fleet Elite status for having maintained the highest standards of safe and fuel-efficient driving for 10 and four years. In fact, 13 of Stagecoach East Midlands’ drivers achieved a perfect GreenRoad rating of zero for the entire year!
