'Stagecoach Strollers' get ready to tackle 'one last' extreme walking challenge for charity

• Final challenge after many years – having raised over £35,000 for charities
• Will walk 100 kilometres in 24 hours
• Raising funds for the Lincolnshire and Nottingham Air Ambulance

Two remarkable members of the team at major local bus operator, Stagecoach East Midlands, are getting ready to take on one last charity challenge, as they prepare to tackle a walk of 100 kilometres in 24 hours.

Dave McMullan and Kim Whitehead – collectively known as the Stagecoach Strollers – are beginning their training to take on the North Yorkshire Ultra, an endurance challenge that will require them to walk from Scarborough to Whitby and back again.

They are aiming to raise £1,200 for the Lincolnshire and Nottingham Air Ambulance. Donations can be made at https://www.justgiving.com/team/david-mcmullan-8?utm_medium=TE&utm_source=CL.

Over a number of years, including an annual cricket match between Stagecoach’s Grimsby depot and Grimsby Town Cricket Club, the pair have raised over £35,000 for local charities. Last year, they raised £2,278 for the Stroke Association after overcoming the Ultra Challenge Lake District by hiking 100 kilometres through wet and difficult conditions.

Dave said: “Here we go again – 100 kilometres in 24 hours continuous. Yes, I had retired from doing these crazy events, but Kim said we had to do one more as it’s new and not far to travel!

“All your help and support, over the years, has been truly amazing, and Kim and I could not do it without your fabulous donations. So, for one last time, please help us raise money for another great charity. Thank you all in advance.”

The air ambulance’s team of doctors and paramedics carry life-saving equipment on board the helicopter and critical care cars which means they can take an emergency department directly to the scene of some of the most serious incidents in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Their crews work closely with the ambulance service, first responders, Police, Fire and Rescue and other emergency services, such as HM Coastguard.
