Stagecoach add 38 more driving jobs in community through service enhancements

29 Aug 2024

  • New services and improved frequencies required additional driving staff
  • Driver vacancies now live at depots across Fife
  • Engagement with local employers aided design of timetables to support workforce

Stagecoach East Scotland has been a proud part of the local community for many years, and as one of Fife’s biggest employers, they play a crucial role in providing employment and public transport access to employment across the Kingdom.

Service changes throughout the summer have led to 38 more driving jobs being created, with Stagecoach bus driver vacancies now live at depots in Dunfermline, Cowdenbeath, Glenrothes, Methil and St Andrews.  The company recently improved its careers website and application process too, making it easier to apply for existing vacancies.

From Monday 29th July, Stagecoach made several enhancements to services across Fife, including departures to Edinburgh up to every 5 minutes from Ferrytoll Park and Ride and up to every 15 minutes from Halbeath Park and Ride on services X54, X56, X59 and X61.  A brand-new service was also introduced from this date, with service X22 now running hourly, seven days a week between Dunfermline and Stirling. Improving these frequencies not only provided additional passenger capacity but increased the driver requirements across Fife.

Stagecoach also revised services and journeys across Fife from 19th August, related to contract changes in the area and commercial changes to serve the new Dunfermline Learning Campus.  Some of these developments were a direct result of collaboration with local employers, including timing adjustments and re-routing of service 19 to serve Amazon, ensuring scheduled departure and arrival times matched employee shift times for maximum convenience.

These improvements required an increase in driving staff based at Stagecoach’s five depots across Fife, with an additional 38 driving shifts created and new drivers recruited to the business, many gaining PCV qualifications through the company’s dedicated training school. This boost in recruitment means that Stagecoach East Scotland now employ 649 drivers across Fife, and 1,274 staff in total across East Scotland.

Douglas Robertson, Managing Director for Stagecoach East Scotland said: “We’re a proud local employer and we’re proud to serve the people of Fife every day. Our latest set of network improvements will see easier access to work, important events and appointments, and leisure activities for locals.”

“The service developments we’ve made recently, not only improve services for customers but contribute to the local economy and we’ve created even more jobs within the local community. Applications are open for driving jobs within our depots in Fife, and we’re delighted to welcome our recent new starts to the business.”
