Stagecoach East Scotland Announces Updated Fares for 2025

07 Apr 2025

  • Fares pay for day-to-day running of services, continued investment in new buses and other customer improvements
  • Stagecoach bus app now offers simplified ticket selection

Stagecoach East Scotland, part of the UK’s largest bus and coach operator, has confirmed its fares will change from Sunday 27th April 2025, covering services across Angus, Dundee, Fife and Perth & Kinross as well as routes into Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Revenue from customer fares is vital for covering the daily expenses of running bus services, including inflationary pressures on fuel and maintenance costs which are increasing the cost of operations. Fare revenue also enables continued investment in our people, new vehicles, technology, and customer service improvements and helps to cover additional costs, such as employer National Insurance contribution increases.

Sarah Elliott, Commercial Director at Stagecoach East Scotland said: “Bus travel remains great value for money and our ticket prices provide an affordable and sustainable option for customers. Stagecoach has consistently delivered some of the lowest ticket prices in the UK and we are committed to keeping fares as low as possible for our customers.”

By March 2026, Stagecoach will have added an additional 500 electric buses to its fleet across the UK, bringing the total to 1,083 zero-emission buses, with 46 new electric vehicles being introduced in East Scotland later in 2025, following investment in 26 new buses already introduced to the fleet in the last 4 months. The company is also investing in a more user-friendly app and website, enabling customers to buy digital single and return tickets in advance. This will reduce the need for paper tickets, speed up boarding time, and contribute to a more sustainable environment.

In addition, Stagecoach is modernising its customer service centre in Perth with innovative technology, making it easier and faster for customers to access services, including locating lost property.

Sarah added: “These investments demonstrate our ongoing commitment to improving the overall travel experience while supporting environmental sustainability, making public transport a more attractive, affordable and sustainable option for everyone.”

Those aged under 22 or over 60 in Scotland are eligible for free travel with a National Entitlement Card.

Stagecoach single and multi-journey bus tickets for travel in Scotland can be purchased on the Stagecoach Bus App in advance of travel, on the bus using contactless payment including Apple and Google Pay or using cash on board.

Stagecoach East Scotland is also adding even more ticket options to the app, including the popular NightRider ticket – just £3.70 for unlimited travel after 6pm, and creating Flexi 10 tickets - a bundle of 10 DayRider tickets for the price of 7, valid for 12 months, ideal for those who don’t travel every day.
