- Six drivers from Stagecoach's East Scotland Dunfermline depot taking on the challenge
- The drivers scaled Ben Nevis, cycle from Perth to Dunfermline and walk from Leven to Dunfermline across 3 days
- They raised over £2,100 for Dunfermline Foodbank and Andy Man's Club
A team of six drivers from Stagecoach East Scotland’s Dunfermline depot has completed a demanding three-day physical challenge to raise vital funds for two local charities, Dunfermline Foodbank and Andy’s Man Club.
The trio of endurance efforts saw the drivers scale Ben Nevis, cycle over 40 miles from Perth to Dunfermline, and walk the entire length of Stagecoach’s Service 7 route from Leven to Dunfermline – all in the space of three consecutive days.
The team, Scott Pirrie, Stuart Bailey, Peter Fyanes, Campbell Aitken, Sean Vickers and Graeme Slight began their challenge on Friday 25 July with the Ben Nevis climb.
The summit tested their physical and mental resolve, but the group worked together to complete the climb and take in the stunning Highland views from the UK’s highest peak.
On Saturday, Scott, Graeme and Campbell took on the cycling leg of the challenge, making their way from Perth to Dunfermline, supported by Peter in a safety vehicle.
The route proved tough for some of the less experienced cyclists, but strong teamwork and determination saw them all safely across the finish line.
The final day saw five members of the group walk the 22-mile journey from Leven to Dunfermline along the path of the number 7 bus route.
Despite poor weather and exhaustion from the previous days, the team completed the journey spurred on by huge support from colleagues, friends and family.
At the time of writing, the group has raised more than £2,100, with hopes to reach £3,000 in the coming weeks. The funds will be shared equally between the two charities, both of which provide vital services across Fife.
Scott Pirrie, driver at Stagecoach’s Dunfermline Depot, said: "The whole weekend was a wonderful experience. Everyone is feeling it at the moment, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that it was worth every ounce of pain.
“I genuinely couldn’t be prouder of everyone that took part. Also, I want to give a huge thank you to our depot manager Lee Strachan for all his support and thank everyone who turned out over the course of the three days to provide us with supplies or give us moral support. We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help.”
Lee Strachan, Operations Manager at Dunfermline Depot, added: “We’re extremely proud of everyone who took on this incredibly difficult challenge. I’ve seen first-hand the work and dedication that’s been put in to get ready for the challenge and didn’t have any doubts that they would be able to take on this challenge.
“The amount of money raised is wonderful to see and the money is going to very worthy causes in the local community.”
The fundraising page remains open, with donations welcome to help the team reach their £3,000 target.
