Coaching with Stagecoach Arbroath schoolchildren enjoy unforgettable day at Gayfield

17 Oct 2025

• Local children take to the pitch for special coaching session with Arbroath FC
• Partnership connects Stagecoach and Arbroath FC through shared community spirit
• Initiative promotes health, wellbeing and sustainable travel among local families
A group of delighted local children enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity this October break as they swapped the classroom for the pitch; taking part in a special coaching session at Gayfield Stadium led by Arbroath co-player-manager David Gold.
The event marked the official launch of “Coaching with Stagecoach”, a new community partnership between Stagecoach and Arbroath Football Club aimed at encouraging local children to stay active, connected and inspired by their hometown heroes.
The pupils posed in front of a zero-emission Stagecoach electric bus, highlighting how families can make greener journeys across the region. Once on the pitch, the children took part in a fun coaching session led by club legend Gold.
David Gold, Arbroath co-player-manager, said:
“This is a brilliant initiative that brings together two organisations at the heart of our town. Football has such a positive influence on young people and we’re proud to work with Stagecoach to help inspire Arbroath’s next generation, both on and off the pitch.”
Sam McWalter, Engineering Director for Stagecoach East Scotland and lifelong Arbroath supporter, has worked for the bus operator for 23 years and also watched his Uncle Mark and cousin Kieran both play for the club at Gayfield.
Sam added:
“I played on this pitch as a schoolboy, so it’s really special to see children enjoy the same experience – it is something they’ll always remember. Arbroath FC is such a visible part of the community and we’re delighted to be joining forces through this partnership to support local children’s health and wellbeing.”
The “Coaching with Stagecoach” initiative will continue throughout the school year, with more Arbroath primary schools invited to take part in upcoming sessions.
