Stagecoach East Scotland driver Aleksei Solovjov finished in an impressive 10th place at the UK Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY) National Final in Blackpool last night (Sunday 14 September).
Based at the Dunfermline depot, Aleksei, who has been with Stagecoach for seven years, was also named the highest placed Stagecoach driver in the competition – securing a trophy and £1,000 prize money. This was his third time competing in the prestigious event.
Dunfermline's Stuart Grubb also represented East Scotland at the final, placing 46th overall in what was his second appearance at the competition. Both were among 100 of the UK’s best bus drivers taking part in the 57th year of the contest.
David Frenz, Interim Managing Director for Stagecoach East Scotland, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of Aleksei and Stuart. To have two of our drivers finish in the UK’s top 50 is a fantastic achievement and testament to their professionalism, skill and commitment to keeping our customers safe every day. Aleksei’s top 10 finish and Stagecoach award win is richly deserved.”
The UK Bus Driver of the Year final is regarded as the ultimate test of professional driving, including challenging manoeuvres, roadcraft under pressure and a written exam covering the Highway Code and driver CPC.
