Stagecoach West has, today, announced a number of changes to services running in Banbury and Witney. These changes are designed to create a more sustainable bus network that can keep customers connected. The changes will come into effect on Sunday 28th August 2022.
Rachel Geliamassi, Managing Director, Stagecoach West, says: “As travel needs and habits change, we need to constantly review and adapt our routes. These changes ensure that our bus services are sustainable for the future and reflect the travel needs of our customers, providing services they can rely on.”
Changes in Witney:
S1 - Oxford – Eynsham - Witney – Windrush Place – Carterton
The S1 will continue to run every 15 minutes between Witney and Oxford but will now serve the Windrush Place development via Centenary Way, providing new connections for residents.
We’ll also serve more of Carterton, running via Upavon Way and Alvescot Road (previously served by the S2). Buses will run the full route from Oxford to Carterton every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 20 minutes on Sundays.
The S1 will no longer serve Curbridge or Brize Norton but alternative connections are available on S2 and 233.
S2 - Oxford – Witney – Cheltenham
The S2 will now run from Oxford to Witney and Curbridge every hour and extend to Cheltenham every 2 hours.
The S2 will no longer serve Carterton but alternative connections are available on the S1 and 233.
This revised S2 service replaces services 853 and S2X which will be withdrawn.
233 – Woodstock – Hanborough – Witney - Burford
There will be no changes to the current timetable but the 233 will now serve Brize Norton, replacing the S1.
H2 - Oxford – Carterton
No route changes but journeys will only extend from Witney to Carterton at peak times. School day journeys to Burford School will continue to run
Changes in Banbury:
500 - Banbury to Brackley
The 500 route has been simplified. All journeys will now run via Chacombe and Banbury Gateway. Due to low passenger numbers, this service will run every hour on Mondays to Saturdays (previously half hourly). The Sunday service will no longer run.
B3 / B4 - Local Banbury Town Service
The current B3 route will be split into two routes - B3 and B4:
· The B3 will run from Bodicote, Longford Park and Cherwell Heights to Banbury Town Centre, running every 30 minutes Monday to Saturdays.
· The B4 will run from Hardwick Hill and Tesco off peak to Banbury Town Centre, running every 30 minutes Monday to Saturdays. Departures for this new B4 service have moved to Bridge Street Bay 5.
Services B3 and B5 will now connect to B5, offering direct connections and tickets, without needing to switch buses.
B5 - Banbury to Nelthrop, Bretch Hill
We’re running extra early morning and evening journeys on the B5 with the service continuing to run every 15 minutes Monday to Saturdays and every 20 minutes on Sundays.
Through fares will be available for connections onto the B3 and B4.
B9 - Banbury Gateway – town centre – Longelandes Way
An extra morning journey will be added Monday to Fridays from Banbury Town Centre at 05:50. Thanks to Oxfordshire County Council funding, frequency will be doubled on Sundays to every 30 minutes.
H4 - Banbury – Adderbury – Deddington – Kidlington – John Radcliffe Hospital
We will be withdrawing the two daily journeys which operate as H4. This is due to low passenger numbers and rising operating costs.
