10 Jan 2023

Forget the January Blues, we’re reclaiming it to be Joyous January! The fairy lights may be down but there is still so much to explore… The New Year sparks a time of resolutions and taking time for yourself.

Whether a new year equals a new you, you’re practicing new habits or simply want to escape the house for a bit of respite, you can do so at little cost and little impact to the environment!

From whimsical Whitstable to the bustling city of Canterbury to the tranquillity of Herne Bay, explore it all on the Triangle service at just £2 for a single bus fare!

Canterbury’s Culture

From the grand cathedral to its indie theatres and eccentric museums, Canterbury is a hub for culture and right on the doorstep to Canterbury Bus Station you can find it all! Check out the Marlowe Theatre where you can catch the hottest musicals, comedy shows and musicians.

Get off the Triangle at Keynes College, on the Uni of Kent campus for the Gulbenkian Theatre. Showing a combination of classic cinema flicks and live performance, the theatre and café makes for a cool hang out spot! And if you’re a student make the most of their saver deals with student membership available and £3 cinema tickets on Tuesdays!

Be at one with nature

If your new year’s resolution is to be more environmentally friendly, you can do that by travelling by bus to go see your favourite wildlife creatures! With over 200 animals calling the 40-acre nature reserve home, get off the Triangle at Wildwood Trust near Herne for a day at the animal park.

If the beach is your hang spot, then Whitstable and Herne Bay’s pebble shores might be your style. Throw on your knitwear, chuck on your boots and head onto the bus until you get to Whitstable’s Harbour Street to see the sea!

Spots to try this Veganuary

When you jump off the Triangle at Canterbury Bus Station, try the Veg Box Café where you will find a range of veggie and vegan goodies to try. From seasonal soups to buddha bowls to vegan sweet treats, this plant-based café has it all!

If you’re aiming to cook more at home this year, then pop down to Whitstable Produce Store. Filled with seasonal veggies, freshly made smoothies and Kentish condiments, fill your tote bag with lots of local goodies and head on the bus home for just £2!

After nipping to the produce store, put your cooking skills to the test, with a wide range of plant-based cookbooks available at Harbour Books. Just jump off at Horsebridge bus stop in Whitstable.

If you’re heading into Herne Bay, hop off at the Library bus stop for a 100% plant-based café, The Wallflower. Featuring freshly baked goods, in-house coffee beans and hearty stews for the cold winter months, there is so much to try at this little vegan haven.

If you’re looking for something different…

Herne Bay’s Seaside Museum provides a different type of history lesson with their Herne Bay Entertains exhibit. This exhibition will tell the story of how visitors and residents of Herne Bay have been entertained through the years. A chance to reminisce if you’re a local or learn more about the quaint seaside town if you’re a visitor. Get off at the Library bus stop.

Running from 14th January to the 12th February, The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge Museum hosts an exhibit which showcase the beauty and colour of African identity through fabrics. An engaging and totally free exhibit, step off at Canterbury Bus Station and make your way down the high street for the vibrant showing.
