29 Aug 2024
Families across South Devon were invited to a free event on Paignton seafront last week which has been part the town’s history for over 70 years and is the UK’s longest running event.
Local residents and visitors alike have grown up with this week of free fun with this year as memorable as ever! Running from the 20th – 24th August 2024 on Paignton Green a host of free children’s entertainment was on offer including craft workshops, magic shows, and acts such as Queenie the Jester, Walking Dinosaurs and 16 Movie Cars.
Matt Dart, organiser of Children’s Week said “This much-loved free community event is only made possible by support from local businesses. Each year local sponsors and volunteers come together to organise and support the event including Stagecoach South West.”
Peter Knight, Stagecoach South West Managing Director said: “We have been proud sponsors of this historical children’s event for over 10 years. It is a highlight for us to support this week of family fun, bringing a bus along on the incredible SciFi day, to put smiles on the faces of our community.”
2024 marks the 77th anniversary of Children’s Week with Sci-Fi Day the culmination of the week, drawing thousands of visitors each year. The day is packed with a fantastic range of memorabilia including cars and costumes from many popular films.
A Stagecoach open top bus was parked on Paignton Green with giveaways on Sci Fi Saturday from 10am to 4pm. The Stagecoach team welcomed visitors and locals to explore the bus alongside a range of iconic movie vehicles. Plus, film fans could also meet their favourite characters such as Spiderman and Titan the Robot.
