Employees of Stagecoach from various bus depots in West Scotland showcased their football skills and team spirit at a charity football tournament on Sunday, October 8th, 2023. The event, held at Shoot Soccer in Ayr, aimed to collect donations for the Trussell Trust, a charity organisation that supports local foodbanks.

With an increasing demand for foodbanks in local communities, approximately 50 Stagecoach employees from Ayr, Kilmarnock, Ardrossan, Stranraer and Cumbernauld bus depots came together to make a difference. Employees’ participation in this charity football tournament not only promotes their physical and mental wellbeing but also contributes to the overall wellbeing of individuals within the communities they serve.

Leading up to the event, each employee participating in the tournament collected donations within their depots, further emphasising their commitment to giving back to the community. This week, the teams delivered their collected donations to the local foodbanks.

The day was filled with laughter and camaraderie as employees reunited for the first tournament since the pandemic. The final match saw an exciting face-off between Ayr and Kilmarnock, with Ayr emerging as the ultimate champions.

Reflecting on the success of the tournament, Stagecoach teams expressed their delight in being able to support such a worthy cause. They hope that their contributions will make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families within their communities.

The Trussell Trust is one of Stagecoach’s partner charities for 2023. The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of foodbank centres to provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for the chance to end the need for foodbanks in the UK.

Emma Revie, Chief Executive at the Trussell Trust said: “We thank the team at Stagecoach for their incredible support. With rising living and energy costs, more and more people walking through the doors of food banks are telling us they’re skipping meals so they can feed their children. They are also turning off essential appliances so they can afford internet access for their kids to do homework.”

“Foodbank staff and volunteers will always do all they can to help people in their communities, they do this every day, but ultimately, no one in the UK should need a food bank –all of us should have enough money for the essentials like food, clothing and heating. The support of Stagecoach will help food banks to continue to provide that lifeline of emergency support, while we work together in the long term to ensure everyone can afford the essentials.”

Fiona Doherty, Managing Director of Stagecoach West Scotland said: “We are proud to partner with The Trussell Trust, who do such important work to the local communities around the West of Scotland. Many colleagues from around the business took part in this event which not only helps with donations but also raising awareness of the importance of foodbanks in local communities.”
