A team of engineers from Stagecoach West is celebrating, having scooped a trio of prizes at the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) Skills Challenge Awards.
The Awards, organised by IRTE (the road transport sector of the Society of Operations Engineers) is a cornerstone event that aims to highlight the skills, dedication, and hard work of those who keep the wheels of the transport industry turning smoothly.
Competing against teams from other bus operators at the British Motor Museum in Warwick, Adam Wiggett, Dan Price, Craig Carter and Leszek Moszkowicz triumphed in winning the Outstanding Qualified Team prize. Craig also won Best Electrical Technician, whilst Dan was runner up in the Vehicle Inspection task.
Participants face a series of rigorous practical and theoretical tests that assess their competence in various aspects of vehicle maintenance, including electrical systems, braking systems, and diagnostics.
Tom Large, Engineering Director, Stagecoach West says: “Huge congratulations to our team, who really delivered at this year’s IRTE Skills Challenge Awards – what an incredible result! The process is rigorous and complex so to come away, collectively, with three accolades is no mean feat.
“All four have either completed apprenticeships or official training qualifications with us, so to be recognised at these prestigious awards pays testament to the quality of our training programme and the hard work and dedication of the individuals involved.”
The IRTE Skills Challenge is organised to recognise excellence by spotlighting top performance and encouraging a culture of excellence and continuous improvement; skills development, providing participants with a platform to benchmark their skills against industry standards; helps set high standards for vehicle maintenance, contributing to overall road safety and efficiency in the transport sector and attracts new talent to the industry.
