Additional information for residents

We will be replacing worn rails on the inbound track between Albert Terrace Road, Bedford Street and Montgomery Terrace Road. The nature of this work requires the use of saw cutters, concrete breakers and other types of equipment and will be noisy at times. As this work is in the road, traffic management is needed, which requires us to work during quieter times when trams and other road users are at a reduced level.

Works will take place over four consecutive days during the Queen’s Jubilee Bank Holiday period when the worn rail will be removed and replaced. Our programme of works is as follows:

  • 23:00 Wednesday 1 June - 05:00 Monday 6 June (works will continue throughout the night and day during this period). During this time the worn rail will be removed and replaced with associated welding works, concrete breaking and cutting taking place. Local road closures and diversions will be in place during this time.
  • Post installation works 23:30 Monday 6 June – 05:00 Thursday 9 June (night time works only between these dates 23:30 – 05:00). For the completion of concrete and polymer repairs if required.

Unfortunately, the nature of these works will generate noise. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and disturbance that these essential works may cause you and we will endeavour to reduce the noise as much as possible.

Please liaise with the Site Supervisor if you have any concerns whilst the works are taking place. Alternatively, you can contact VolkerRail, the contractor carrying out the works on our behalf, directly via their 24hr Control Centre on 01302 791187 (during the works).

Please be assured that we plan to complete the works in your area in as short a time as possible in order to minimise the disruption. Thank you for your patience whilst these works are carried out.
