If you're heading to see the Arctic Monkeys this Friday 9 or Saturday 10 June, we've pulled together some useful information to help make your journey to and from Hillsborough Park as simple as possible.
Tramstops in the Hillsborough area
Hillsborough Park is served by Hillsborough Park and Leppings Lane tram stops which are on the Yellow route. The best stop will depend on where you enter the park. If you're heading to the event by tram, services will be very busy so please allow plenty of time.
When leaving the event, signage within the park will direct you to the tram exit, closest to Leppings Lane tram stop .
Blue route trams will also operate to Hillsborough, which is just a short walk from Hillsborough Park.
Both Yellow and Blue route services operate every 12 minutes until around 1900, and around every 30 minutes thereafter. You can plan your journey here.
All trams after the event will only pick up at Leppings Lane, where queuing systems and ticket checks will be in place. Anyone leaving the event will be unable to board trams at Middlewood, Hillsborough Park or Hillsborough tram stops. These stops will be closed from around 2130 until around 2300.
Service changes
The normal advertised 30 minute frequency will operate on Yellow and Blue after around 1900 on both days, offering a combined 15 minute frequency between the City Centre and Hillsborough.
At the end of the event, additional services will operate between Leppings Lane and the City Centre. Please note that only a small number of services from Leppings Lane will operate beyond the City Centre so please bear this in mind if you plan to park in any of the Park & Ride sites located across the city.
For information on Park & Ride sites, head over to the Travel South Yorkshire website.
Services to and from Malin Bridge may be disrupted and diverted, particularly between around 2130 and 2300.
Wait times
At the end of the event, customers wishing to use the tram should expect a wait of around 60 to 90 minutes. Due to the residential nature of the area and a number of road closures that will be in place, traffic after the event will be very busy and it is likely that trams will experience delays due to large volumes of people leaving Hillsborough Park and because of traffic congestion in the area. Delays should be expected so please be patient and respectful towards staff and stewards - it will be busy but we will get everyone moving as quickly as we can.
Ticketing
We accept cash and card payments (including Apple Pay and Google Pay) on all services. If you plan to travel to and from the event on tram, the single fare is £2 and the return fare is £4. The Stagecoach bus app also offer a range of daily and weekly tickets for anyone making multiple journeys.
Whilst we welcome payment by card or contactless, our ticket machines require a 4G connection to authorise payments therefore mobile network congestion which can occur where large crowds gather may mean some transactions will be slower to process than normal. To avoid any delays, please consider buying a return ticket on your outward journey or you may prefer to pay cash - having the correct change will help keeps queues moving too.
Customers who already have valid tram tickets when leaving the event may be able to board trams quicker. Staff and stewards will be on hand to help guide and offer information.
