A local bus driver has been hailed as a ‘Star of the Month’, after showing calmness and compassion when a passenger, on his bus, fell unconscious.
Chris Goodwin, a Driver for Stagecoach, was commended for having shown “an outstanding response” during the recent incident. The commendation, along with a reward of shopping vouchers, was delivered by Duty Manager, Laurence Pickford, who explained that a customer on Chris’ bus had experienced a medical emergency, which resulted in their loss of consciousness.
The commendation concludes: “Thanks to Chris's quick thinking, along with his exemplary care, compassion, and patience, the customer was able to receive the necessary medical attention.”
Laurence concluded: “This incident is a remarkable demonstration of our commitment to serving the community by doing what is right every day. Congratulations once again, Chris!”
Matt Kitchin, Managing Director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, added: “I am so proud of the calm and professional way that Chris dealt with what could have been a very difficult situation; he is hugely deserving of this commendation. He showed a lot of quick thinking to assess the situation and make sure that this passenger was kept safe during the entire incident.
“It just goes to show that, as people who run local buses, we are very much part of the local communities we serve – because we are from our communities.
“These commendations reflect the values that we strive to uphold, like ‘we support communities’ and ‘we do the right thing’, and Chris has shown that he was able to live out those values in very testing circumstances.”
