Young Barnsley Bus Fan Gets A Thrill After Getting Behind The Wheel

A young bus enthusiast has been given the thrill of his young lifetime after being able to get behind the wheel of a real bus.

Bus fan, George, was invited to sit behind the wheel of the bus, which had been specially isolated in order to be safe, while he and his Mum were on a trip around Elsecar.

George’s Mum, Olivia Wyatt, is a Driver at Stagecoach’s Barnsley depot – they live in Monk Bretton. Last year, Olivia received a certificate for her safe driving.

Olivia said: “George is fascinated by buses, so this was a wonderful treat for him. One of the Drivers offered if he would like to sit behind the wheel and we were able to properly isolate the vehicle. He absolutely loved it and I know that he will be telling his friends all about it!”

John Young, Commercial Director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, added: “It is lovely that we were able to give George this opportunity to get behind the wheel and ‘drive’ a real bus. At Stagecoach, we always say that we ‘plan for the future’ and young people, like George, could certainly be the future of the bus industry.”

As part of the government’s Great British Summer Savings Scheme, children aged from five to 15 can travel with Stagecoach for free all of August, with only a few special services exempt. Children under five years old can travel for free all year round.
