Your bus network, improved

From Sunday 31 May 2026

We're improving Bedford's bus network from Sunday, 31st May 2026, following extensive research into how our customers travel, months of consultation with our drivers, the local authorities, and councillors.  

Changes include extended routes, new services, improved frequencies, and timetable updates designed to build reliability across the region. 

New routes, more places to go

Service 5 is extending to Woodside Dover Crescent and Mark Rutherford School — and for passengers boarding at Dover Crescent, that means twice as many buses. A brand new 2W service will connect you to Wootton via Interchange Retail Park and Wixams. And if you're travelling between Stevenage and Hudson Road, the new SB12 has you covered. 

Faster, more frequent journeys

Service 3 is going direct. Service 4 is expanding to Elms Farm and Norse Road, running every 30 minutes so you spend less time waiting.

Buses you can count on

Services 1, 6, 8, and X5 are getting timetable tweaks to run more reliably. Services 9, 9A, and 9B will run between Bedford and Stevenage every two hours, while the new 9D links Henlow, Hitchin, and Stevenage every 30 minutes.

Stay out later

Services 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9 will now run until 10:30 pm on weekdays — so the evening is yours.
