Engineering works on 17 and 18 September

To allow essential repairs to take place in the South Street Bridge area, Blue and Purple route services will be subject to alteration throughout the weekend of 17 and 18 September.

Blue route

The Blue route will operate between Malin Bridge and Cricket Inn Road only. There will be no service between Halfway and Fitzalan Square. View the timetable here.

Affected customers may use valid tram tickets on Stagecoach & First 120 bus services between City, Manor Top and Halfway. Tram tickets will also be valid on the First 51 between White Lane and City.

TM Travel will be operating a dedicated replacement service on behalf of Travel South Yorkshire. Normal tickets and rules apply. For details of the B1 replacement service, stop locations and tram service information, please come back to this page in the next few days.

B1 replacement bus - timetable, route and stops

Purple route

The Purple route not operate. Valid tram ticiekts will be valid on First 1/1a between Herdings and City and on Stagecoach 120 between City and Manor Top

 

Yellow

These services are not affected by these works and are expected operate as per the advertised timetables.

 

Tram Train

These services are not affected by these works. However Tram Train services may be affected by Network Rail industrial action on Saturday 20 August so please check your journey before you travel.

 

Ticket Information

Valid tram tickets, and tram tickets bought with the Stagecoach bus app and Stagecoach Smart products will all be accepted on the B1 replacement service. A limited number of tickets will be sold by the Drivers on the B1; these are limited to single and day tickets as well as a range of TravelMaster products, such as Citywide. Please note that bus only tickets are not valid on the B1. Customers starting their journey on the B1 and who require a ticket valid longer than just a single trip or single day may purchase weekly or longer tickets on the Stagecoach bus app or online at stagecoachbus.com/tickets

All tram tickets purchased on the B1 will be valid on tram services, as per the validity of the ticket concerned and customers making journeys using the B1 and tram only need to purchase one ticket for their entire journey.

Additional information for residents in the area of the works

The nature of this work requires the use of saw cutters, concrete breakers and other types of equipment and will be noisy at times. This work also requires the tramway to be closed along this section for the duration of the works and localised pedestrian diversions will be necessary.

Our ongoing maintenance programmes are critical to extend the lifespan of our city’s tram network, maintaining the reliable, comfortable and safe level of service Supertram customers have come to expect.

Track replacement works

Works will take place over two consecutive days over the weekend of 17/18 September when the worn rail will be removed and replaced. Our programme of works is as follows:

  • 00:30 Thursday 15 September until 05:00 preparation works for concrete cutting and breaking
  • 00:30 Friday 16 September until 05:00 preparation works for concrete cutting and breaking
  • 00:30 Saturday 17 September until 05:00 Monday 19 September (works will continue throughout the night and day during this period). During this time the worn rail will be removed and replaced with associated welding works, concrete breaking and cutting taking place. Local pedestrian diversions will be in place during this time.
  • Post installation works 23:30 Monday 19 September – 05:00 Thursday 22 September (night time works only between these dates 23:30 – 05:00). For the completion of concrete and polymer repairs if required.

Unfortunately, the nature of these works will generate noise. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and disturbance that these essential works may cause you and we will endeavour to reduce the noise as much as possible.

Please liaise with the Site Supervisor if you have any concerns whilst the works are taking place. Alternatively, you can contact VolkerRail, the contractor carrying out the works on our behalf, directly via their 24hr Control Centre on 01302-791187 (during the works).
