Derbyshire bus operator, Stagecoach, has made a major step to help relieve poverty locally, by giving a £500 grant to Clay Cross Foodbank.
The grant will be used to purchase food or hygiene items to be placed in emergency food parcels. The food parcels provide three days of nutritionally balanced food to relieve the suffering caused by food poverty. The £500 grant can provide a bag of pasta for 1,219 food parcels!
In addition to material assistance, everyone who receives a parcel can access the foodbank’s in-house financial inclusion service, run in partnership with North East Derbyshire Citizens Advice. To find out more about the work done by Clay Cross Foodbank, please go to: www.claycross.foodbank.org.uk.
Matt Kitchin, Managing Director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to be able to support an organisation that is so important to our local community. Their work to relieve the suffering caused by food poverty and to give vulnerable people the best support and advice is truly inspiring.
“Grants like this are one way that we can really live out our customer promise that ‘we’ve got you’.”
Jennie Strong, Strategic Manager of Clay Cross Foodbank, added: “We are incredibly grateful for the grant from Stagecoach. It will allow us to purchase stock to put in our emergency payment parcels. These parcels are a gateway to our financial inclusion support, which can offer advice and action to enable people to afford their own food in the future.”
