U22? Apply for free bus travel!

If you are a student under the age of 22 you can apply for a free bus travel card to access the Young Persons’ (Under 22s) Free Bus Travel Scheme.

The scheme is an initiative from the Scottish Government and with support from Transport Scotland young people and children can travel for free on all buses across Scotland.

Children or young people will need a new or replacement National Entitlement Card (NEC) or a Young Scot National Entitlement Card (Young Scot NEC) before they can travel for free.

Younger children under five years old will still be able to travel for free by bus and don't need a card.

If you are a student over the age of 22 or just studying in Scotland for a short time, our student bus passes give you discounted travel anywhere within your selected zone - pay once and use it as many times as you like throughout the term with a 4 week MegaRider ticket, or buy as you need to travel with our single, DayRider, Flexi 5/10 or 7 day student MegaRider tickets. All tickets are available to buy on the Stagecoach Bus App.

Which student ticket is right for me?

Students can buy a single ticket from our driver - saving 25% on an adult fare, or purchase one of our great value DayRider or MegaRider tickets.
Don't forget, our Flexi 5 ticket is also available on the Stagecoach Bus app, offering 5 DayRider tickets for the price of 4!

Our multi-journey tickets are split into 3 prices - Town/City, Regional and East Scotland, covering local towns and cities, as well as cross country travel on our Express City Connect network. Ticket costs vary per zone type.

If you can get there by bus with Stagecoach East Scotland, you can get there with one of our student tickets.

Student Tickets FAQs

What do I need to get my student ticket?

Our student bus passes are available to any students at either college or university with valid student ID. You can show this to the driver with your student ID card, a digital ID or the Unidays app.

Can I get a student ticket on the Stagecoach Bus App?

Yes, all our tickets are now available to buy on the Stagecoach Bus App. Once purchased, you'll need to add your student details including your name and student ID number (if you have one) before you can activate the ticket for use. You may be asked to show your student ID when showing your ticket to the driver.

What do I do if I lose my student ticket?

We realise there's a small chance of you losing your ticket, please look after it as it's a valuable item. If you do lose it, contact our customer services team with a crime reference or lost property number from the police, and a replacement may be considered.

Yes, you must show valid student ID when you buying and using your student bus pass.

Can students get a free bus pass?

Universities and colleges may provide funding or bursaries to cover the cost of travel for some students. Please contact your college or university for more information. Students under the age of 22 you can can apply for a free bus travel card to access the Young Persons’ (Under 22s) Free Bus Travel Scheme. Also, you can find out more information here.

Can I cancel my student bus pass?

To cancel, change or get a refund on a paper ticket, send the ticket and an explanation to Stagecoach in your area, where it will be reviewed on an individual basis.

To cancel your StagecoachSmart ticket, log in to the website and select the Manage My StagecoachSmart section of MyStagecoach.

Your StagecoachSmart ticket can also be cancelled or refunded by calling the StagecoachSmart customer services team on 0345 810 1000 .
