Bus Ticket Guide: Stagecoach East Scotland

Tickets for children (ages 0 - 15)

Under 5s 

Up to four children under the age of 5 can travel for free when accompanied by a responsible passenger. 

However, these children can't:

• take a seat that paying passengers might need
• stay in a buggy in an unsuitable place on the bus

5-15 year olds

U16s may be asked for valid photo ID showing proof of age when buying and using tickets - failure to show on request means the full adult fare is payable. 

Single fares 

Our single fares range from £1.40 to £12.70 with a 50% discount for children (aged from five to fifteen). Young Scot card holders can also benefit from 1/3 off single adult fares. You can apply for a free Young Scot card if you're over the age of 11.

A child add-on fare of just £1 is available between Ferrytoll/Halbeath P&R and Edinburgh when travelling with an adult buying the off peak day return.

We also offer a £1 child period return from anywhere on our Express network/JET747 when travelling to Edinburgh Airport with an adult or concession (excluding service X7).

U16 DayRider ticket 

If you're making two or more journeys on the same day, the best value option is usually one of our DayRider tickets. Under 16s can get a child DayRider ticket in most of our travel zones, for one day's unlimited travel. Buy from the driver or you can now buy as a mobile ticket via the Stagecoach Bus app.

U16 MegaRider ticket 

Under 16s can also get an U16 MegaRider ticket for 7 days’ unlimited travel on our buses. This is available to buy from the driver, from stagecoachbus.com or from the Stagecoach Bus app.

Discounted tickets for over 11s with the Young Scot card

If you’re over 11, you can apply for a free Young Scot card. You’ll get 1/3 off all our adult single fares, and you can use the card as proof of age when purchasing U16 tickets.

Tickets for young people (16 - 19 years old) 

Young people can purchase:

1. Any type of adult ticket
2. or apply for free bus travel through the Under 22 Free Bus Travel Scheme.  

We've removed standard returns from our fares as the best value option is usually one of our DayRider tickets if you're making two or more journeys on the same day. 

Tickets for students 

If you’re a full time student, you’ll get great value with our tickets exclusively for students!

Students get 25% off single fares and our student DayRider and MegaRider tickets offer unlimited travel within your chosen ticket zone. 

We've removed standard returns from our fares as the best value option is usually one of our DayRider tickets if you're making two or more journeys on the same day. However, some of our promotional discounted day return tickets are still available. You can find out more about those on our Day Returns page.

To buy and use a student ticket, you'll need one of the following:

• a university or college card
• an NUS card
• an International student ID card (provided it shows photo ID)

Remember, your student ID must contain a recent photo and failure to show on request will result in the full adult fare being payable.

Tickets for adults 

Passengers aged 16 and over are considered adults. Remember, if you're aged between 16 and 19 you can take advantage of the Young Person Free Travel Scheme. 

Our single fares range from £1.40 to £12.70.

MegaRider tickets 

You can use your weekly bus ticket for unlimited travel on Stagecoach East Scotland routes in your chosen area. You can choose a zone to suit your travel needs and how long you want your ticket for - we have MegaRider tickets for 7 days, 4 weeks and a calendar month. 7 day MegaRider tickets can also be purchased as a mobile ticket on the Stagecoach Bus app.

These tickets are ideal for regular travellers who are looking to save money. They can also be passed to friends and family when you’re not using it.  Just pick your zone and either buy from the driver or online.

You’re advised to insure higher-value tickets as replacements are only granted in exceptional circumstances. If you lose a registered Smartcard and there are 5 or more days left on a ticket, we will transfer this to a new card and issue to the delivery address provided. Please note it can take 3 working days for this to arrive.. Simply sign in and report your card as lost via the My Account area of Stagecoachbus.com.

DayRider tickets 

Our DayRider tickets are ideal if you’re making several journeys in one day. You can enjoy unlimited travel within your chosen travel zone.  DayRider tickets can be purchased from the driver or as a MobileTicket on the Stagecoach Bus app.

Flexi 5 tickets

We know working patterns have changed recently, which is why we're offering a new flexible ticket to suit your travel needs. Available exclusively on the Stagecoach Bus app, simply buy 5 of the same adult or student DayRider tickets for the price of 4 and use them within a year from activation - perfect if you don't need to travel every day!

Multi-operator tickets

	ABC is a smart ticket scheme for the Dundee and North East Fife area offering unlimited travel for 1 day or 7 days, you can buy your ticket from the driver and they'll either issue you with a new smartcard or the ticket can be loaded onto your existing card.
	ONE-TICKET is an unique travel scheme offering you unlimited travel on buses and rail in East Central Scotland. ONE-TICKET includes your own Travelarea plus areas of a lower number, (eg. Travelarea 4 = 4 + 3 + 2 + Edinburgh SmartZone), all for one great value price.   You can now buy and use your ONE-TICKET through a handy mobile app!
	The Grasshopper ticket is a great way to travel in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, just hop on or hop off any bus.

Tickets for families and groups 

DayRider tickets 

Travelling in a group? We've made our group tickets even better as they're now valid for up to and including 5 passengers, child or adult. Group tickets are valid after 0900 Monday- Friday or anytime at the weekend.

Our DayRider tickets will allow you and your family or group unlimited travel within your chosen travel zone for the whole day.

Buy from the driver, or you can now buy as a mobile ticket via the Stagecoach Bus app.

Concessionary (seniors and disabled)

If you're of retirement age or have a disability, you can apply for a National Entitlement card  from the Scottish Government.

Your pass will allow you to travel for free on our buses. You’ll be able to use it at any time, any day of the week. The terms, conditions and rules applying to the scheme are the responsibility of the pass- issuing authority.

If you need assistance from our driver, you may also be eligible for a journey assistance card.

Jobseekers 

We offer half price single tickets (where available) to jobseekers. To qualify you must have a valid Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card.

Animals 

Guide dogs and assistance dogs can travel free of charge at all times. 

We allow other small well-behaved animals to travel at the discretion of the driver. See our conditions of carriage  for our full policy on animals.

Penalty charges 

All passengers must have a valid ticket or pass for their journey. If you don't show your ticket or pass when we ask, we may issue a penalty charge of £30.
