Free Bus Passes for Concessionary Travel

If you have reached state pension age or have a certain disability, you may be eligible for a concessionary bus pass from your local council, free of charge. This is a bus pass that allows concessionary travel on most Stagecoach buses for free in your local region.

Not everyone is eligible for a concessionary or disability bus pass, so we recommend you contact your local council for more information.

When can I get a free bus pass?

The age at which you can get a free bus pass varies, depending on where you live as each local authority has their own set agreements.

Do you qualify for free concessionary travel? Check via the postcode checker on HM Government official page.

There is no age requirement for a disability bus pass. However, you must have the supporting documents to prove your eligibility.

What are the benefits of a concessionary bus pass?

Free bus travel!

  • Concessionary free travel on local Stagecoach bus services throughout our operating area. You can travel between certain times* during weekdays and anytime during weekends and bank holidays - *Some restrictions may apply.
  • Greater freedom to access shops, services and amenities, freedom to access healthcare and freedom to visit family and friends.
  • Many accessible routes to get you where you want to go.

How do I use my concessionary bus pass?

Once you've received your concessionary bus pass, you can use it immediately. First, show your bus pass to the driver, then hold it against the reader on the ticket machine, just like you do with a bank card. Wait for the green light or listen for a beep - remove your pass, take your receipt, and choose your seat for your free ride!

If you need extra help you may also be eligible for a journey assistance card.

What do I do if I lose my concessionary bus pass?

If you lose your pass, you’ll need to contact the local council that issued it to you for a replacement. Unfortunately, we’re not able to give you free travel if you don’t have your concessionary or disability bus pass with you.

How do I renew my concessionary bus pass?

If you have a concessionary or disability bus pass with Stagecoach, there is no need to renew. However, if you lose your pass, you can get a new one either by applying via you local council.
