Biogas-powered double decker comes to Sunderland

We have joined forces with Scania to bring Britain's first biogas-powered double decker to the streets of Sunderland.

The state-of-the-art bus will be trialed on the X24 service for six weeks from 30 July 2017.

What is biogas?

Biogas is produced naturally through anaerobic digestion, using food waste, farm waste and sewage. The methane emitted from the digestion process is captured, treated and turned into fuel.

Why are biogas buses great?

  • Travel on biogas buses is 50 times cleaner than travelling by car
  • Biogas engines produce less vibration that diesel equivalents, which means a more comfortable and quieter ride
  • UK biogas production can help create sustainable economic growth, creating and supporting local jobs
  • Scania offer a complete turnkey solution, with partners in place to provide everything that's needed
