Take a step through time by visiting Plymouth’s ancient landmarks and monuments, dating back to the 15th century. There are a number of Stagecoach bus stops in the city centre, a short walk from famous sites such as the Mayflower steps, where the pilgrims first set sail, the dramatic Royal Citadel and Royal William Yard, which boasts the largest collection of Grade 1 listed military buildings in Europe. You can also hop on the number 1 from Tavistock and visit the historic Buckland Abbey, only 30 minutes from Plymouth’s city centre.

With stunning panoramic views of the English Channel (known locally as The Plymouth Sound), the Hoe is undoubtedly one of the best viewpoints in Plymouth and the perfect place to take in the city’s magnificent coastline. Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse is Plymouth’s most iconic landmark, it’s red and white stripes are a striking backdrop for several exciting annual events which take place at the Hoe, including Plymouth’s Armed Forces Weekend and the world famous British Firework Championships. The Stagecoach route 14 stops close to the Hoe, or for a view of the famous lighthouse from the other side, catch the number 2 bus to Mount Batten Peninsula across the bay.

Plymouth’s major shopping centre, Drake Circus, boasts over 70 shops and eateries under one roof, including some of the UK’s most popular designer and high street brands such as Jack Wills, Topshop, River Island and Superdry. The Stagecoach number 19 bus from Plympton, X38 from Exeter and the Gold from Torquay all stop in Plymouth city centre, a short walk from Charles Street where Drake Circus is located. Wonder down to the Barbican to find independent boutiques and artisan outlets, selling unique and handmade clothing and gifts.
