Unirider is the discount student bus ticket that’s always in your pocket...

You can now buy your Student Unirider ticket on the app! So not only do you have access to great value discounted tickets you can store your tickets safely and securely on your phone so there's no need to remember your Smartcard or wait for it to arrive.

(Although if you prefer to 'keep the beep' of a smartcard, we can also do this too!)  

Whether you want a day in the library or a night on the town, a trip to the shops or a pub lunch, never worry about getting there with Unirider from just over £1 per day!*

Don’t worry about change for the bus – pay at the start of the term and never have to think about scraping together travel money again. No more walking home from campus in the rain, no more expensive taxis.

Once you buy your Unirider, that’s it, you just show it to the driver,  along with your student ID, whenever you board a Stagecoach bus.

How do I get a student mobile ticket on the app?

You can now buy your ticket on the app in 3 easy steps. 

Step 1 - Download and open the Stagecoach Bus App

Step 2 - Make sure you have your student ID and payment card ready

Step 3 - Click on buy tickets and click on the Student tab, choose your student summer holiday ticket, make your purchase and away you go!

Buy online

Unirider tickets bought online are loaded onto a Stagecoach Student Smart Card.

Top up easily online and simply tap your card onto the reader when you board the bus.

Remember, you'll be required to show student ID when you board the bus.

If you can get there by bus with Stagecoach North East, you can go with your Unirider ticket...

We operate services in Newcastle, Sunderland, South Shields, Hartlepool, Teesside and also into Northumberland... you can go anywhere from the coast, to the shops, to a lecture or the cinema, all with your Unirider!

What if I lose it?

Your Unirider is an item of value and should be looked after as securely as possible...

If you do lose your Unirider, please get in touch with us. We'll arrange to cancel the lost product and look get you on your way again with a replacement. 

  • We will only replace a ticket once within its validity period.

  • We will impose an administration charge of £25.

  • We will insist on the claim being in writing either by email or through the post to our head office. You will need to provide proof of purchase.

What if I need to cancel my ticket?

If we agree to cancel an activated ticket, we will refund the residual ticket value based on a pro-rata calculation of the price paid and the period of time remaining by reference to the date the refund is requested or last date of use, whichever is the later. Before we process a refund, we may ask for tickets to be returned to us or request photographic evidence of destruction. There is a cancellation charge of £10 which will be applied. NB: Unirider is not available on a limited number of routes funded by Local Authorities, or which are paid for by third-party organisations. This includes UTC South Durham services, Service 59 within County Durham, and special routes to schools secured by Nexus. Unirider is also not valid west of Greenhead Bank Foot on Service 685.
