Travelling by bus has an impact on future generations

You can still look after your family for years to come by choosing to travel by bus.  You’re helping reduce emissions and save the environment!

We recently welcomed new, zero-emission electric buses to our Ayr, Irvine and Kilmarnock fleet, making significant progress toward reducing our carbon footprint.

If you’ve not had the chance to experience these new buses, we highly recommend you do. Enjoy a free hurl with your bus pass – you’ll be sure to notice some improvements!

Frequently asked questions

When can I use my free bus pass?

Unlike travelling by train, there’s no limits by bus! You can use your pass at any time of the day, every day of the week*!  There’s no peak-time restrictions. So, whether you’re off to work, to a concert or just hitting the town with friends, we won’t make you pay for living your life how you want to.

(*concession passes are not valid on some specific night buses where a set fare is applicable.)

Where can I use my free travel bus pass?

You can travel all over Scotland on any bus for free with your pass. Days out, nights away or holidays – travel in Scotland and experience the freedom of bus. Use your pass in local towns and cities with our great local, express and distance bus services. Your pass is valid on services to and from Carlisle and on services to and from Berwick-upon-Tweed from anywhere in Scotland. Unfortunately, your card is not valid for travel within these towns, and for any journeys in England or Wales.

What if I’ve lost or damaged my bus pass?

If you've lost or damaged your pass, you'll need to contact your local council that issued your pass. Once you've applied for a replacement pass your existing bus pass will be cancelled and you'll not be able to use the pass on the bus. You’ll have to pay the bus fare until you get your new bus pass. But if your pass is damaged, and does not work on a bus electronic ticketing machine you can give it to the bus driver in exchange for a “seven day pass” paper ticket. We can only issue a seven day pass in exchange for your damaged bus pass, a seven day pass can only be issued once.

How long does it take for my pass to be ready to use once it arrives?

Your pass is ready to use right away, when it arrives in the post and you can be enjoying free bus travel, and other benefits the very same day!

Do I get a bus pass even though I'm still working?

Yes! Everyone living in Scotland over the age of 60 is entitled to a concessions card, whether they are retired or still working.

Who do I contact to get a replacement pass?

You can order a replacement bus pass by contacting your local council, or SPT.

SPT Concessionary Travel Card Unit: E-mail: [email protected] or Telephone: 0141 333 3211 (Monday to Friday 09.00 to 13.00)
